Thank you for downloading Microsoft Internet Mail and News 1.5b1.
Internet Mail and News lets you communicate with others on the Internet through electronic mail and newsgroups. Electronic mail, or e-mail, lets you exchange messages and files with other people on the Internet. Internet newsgroups consist of messages by individuals, organized by topic. You can take part by posting a message of your own, responding to a message, or sending an e-mail message directly to the author of a message.

Requirements

System Requirements
Ñ 68030 processor or better
Ñ System 7.1 and above
Ñ 8 MB of RAM
Ñ 4 MB of hard disk space to install.
Ñ 1 MB of hard disk space to run, depending on the amount of e-mail you receive.
Access to the Internet
You must have access to the Internet through an Internet Service
Provider or the network to which your computer is connected.
Internet software
Ñ MacTCP (Control Panel) or Open Transport 1.08 or greater (extension) with TCP/IP (Control Panel)
Ñ If you are a dial-up user, Config PPP or similar PPP connection
software (Control Panel) with PPP (Extension)

Upgrade Instructions
----------------------
After you install Internet Mail and News 1.5b1, you will need to follow the steps below.
Ñ Upgrading from 1.0b1 and 1.0 to 1.5b1
Important: Before you launch Internet Mail and News 1.5b1 for the first time, follow these instructions. It is strongly recommended the you throw away your 1.0b1 preferences file. To do so, open the Preferences folder in your System Folder and drag the Internet Mail and News Prefs file to the trash.
1. Double-click the Microsoft Internet Apps BETA folder to open it.
2. Double-click the Internet Mail and News folder to open it.
3. Double-click the Internet Mail and News 1.0b1 folder to open it.
4. While holding down the Option key, drag the Address Book file and the Internet Mail folder from the Internet Mail and News 1.0b1 folder to the Internet Mail and News folder that contains version 1.5b1 to copy them.
5. Start Internet Mail and News 1.5b1. Your mail and address book from 1.0b1 are now available.
6. If you threw out your preferences file, as recommended, enter your user information by choosing Preferences from the Edit menu.
Note: Your mail and address book is now in the Main User folder in the IMN User(s) folder located in the Internet Mail and News folder.
Ñ Upgrading from 1.1 to 1.5b1
Important: Before you launch Internet Mail and News 1.5b1 for the first time, follow these instructions.
1. Locate the folder that contains the 1.1 version of Internet Mail and News.
2. While holding down the Option key, drag the IMN Users(s) folder from the Internet Mail and News folder that contains version 1.1 to the Internet Mail and News folder that contains version 1.5b1 to copy them.
3. Start Internet Mail and News 1.5b1. Your mail and address book from 1.1 are now available.

Ñ Support for sending and receiving mail and news messages in other languages for Apple Language Kit users.
Ñ Improved toolbar takes up less space and has tool tips.
Ñ You can now choose to hide or show the toolbar.
Ñ New sound options let you choose the sound you want to hear for mail sent, mail received, no mail, and mail error.
Ñ Folders now show the number of unread messages within each folder to the right of the folder name.

To report bugs, send mail to msmacimn@microsoft.com. The easiest way to do this is to open the "Reporting Bugs/Suggestions" message in your Inbox and click the Reply button.
Please include:
Ñ The version of Internet Mail and News you are using
Ñ What version you upgraded from
Ñ System configuration information
Ñ Version of operating system
Ñ Type of Macintosh
Ñ Type of connection to the Internet
Ñ Steps that lead to the bug. For example:
1. Start Internet Mail and News.
2. From the File menu, choose Open.
3. Click the Cancel button.
4. Result: Nothing happens.
Ñ Any other information that will help us reproduce the bug successfully.
